A wild elephant has died after being hit by the night mail train number 943 running from Colombo to Trincomalee this mo ing (the 17th).

Wildlife officials stated that the wild elephant was hit by the train while crossing the railway line from the Kaudulla Reserve to the Somawathiya Reserve.

The accident occurred near the 151st post in Kituluthuwa.

The deceased wild elephant is reported to be about 15 years old and about 7 feet tall.
