Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha says that a separate department for special education will be established in the National University of Education to be established in the future.

The minister made these comments while attending the launch ceremony of the circular and guidelines on special education assessment.

The minister also revealed that the birth rate in Sri Lanka has been decreasing in the past few years and that between 6,000-8,000 children are bo with special needs.
