The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the extension of the scheme of granting permits for the import of fully electric vehicles to Sri Lankans employed abroad.
Accordingly, the licensing scheme has been extended till September 23, 2023.
Minister Bandula Gunawardena said while attending today's press conference to announce the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers that the emigrant workers were given a great privilege through this.
It was previously implemented that people working abroad were allowed to import fully electric vehicles if they had legally remitted their income to Sri Lanka.
Accordingly, for the import of electric vehicles, the emigrant workers were allowed to import the desired electric vehicles based on the amount of foreign exchange remitted to Sri Lanka during the period from 01.05.2022 to 31.12.2022.
