The Electricity Board announced that the proposal for revising electricity tariffs will be submitted to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) today (December 6).
Speaking to the media, the Chairman of the Electricity Board, Dr. Tilak Siyambalapitiya, confirmed the submission of the proposal. The plan outlines tariff adjustments for the first half of 2025, which are expected to take effect from the third week of January.
In line with the current gove ment's policy to revise tariffs biannually, this proposal marks the first revision for next year. Previously, electricity tariffs were revised three times in 2023 and twice this year.
Meanwhile, the proposal for reducing tariffs by approximately 6%, initially planned for December 2024, faced delays. Submitted in October, it was flagged by the PUCSL for three major errors, leading to multiple deadline extensions. The final deadline for resubmission ends today, December 6.
The PUCSL has wa ed that if the revised proposal is not submitted, it will independently carry out the tariff revision process.
