The Ceylon Electricity Board has handed over the proposal to the Public Utilities Commission regarding the revision of electricity tariffs to be implemented from the first of July.
Accordingly, it is reported that it has been proposed to reduce electricity charges by three percent.
It is stated that the proposal has been prepared taking into consideration the electricity generation and sales data, fuel coal and other material prices as well as the electricity generation plan and requirement of the year.
However, the chairman of the Public Utilities Commission, Mr. Janaka Ratnayake, recently said that electricity tariffs can be reduced by about 20 percent when the costs incurred for electricity production have fallen.
