Internet’s favorite ‘Doge’ - ‘Kabosu’ dies

Kabosu, the Shiba Inu dog behind the 'doge' inte et meme, has died yesterday(24).

She was around 18 years old and was diagnosed with leukemia and liver disease in 2020.

A picture of Kabosu with this iconic look went viral around 2013 on various online chatrooms.

That image of Kabosu is one of the most iconic and recognized images of the social web era.

The dog’s owner is Atsuko Sato (62) a kindergarten teacher from the city of Sakura, Japan.

Sayo confirmed the news in a poignant poem on her blog.

She has written, 'She quietly passed away as if asleep while I caressed her'.

Kabosu has been featured in numerous social posts. She even became the face of a cryptocurrency.

A non-fungible token, or NFT, of the image, was sold in 2021 for a whopping $4 million.

In 2014 the public transport authority in Sweden used the doge meme for their advertising campaign.
