Kalawewa’s Legendary Tusker Dies of Electrocution



A tusker from the Kalawewa National Park, identified as Deeghadanthu 1, has died after being electrocuted.

According to reports, the elephant was fatally injured when it became entangled in an unprotected electric wire near a house in the Ginguruwewa area of Andiyagala.

Deeghadanthu 1, known for its massive tusks and status as the oldest elephant in the Kalawewa lineage, was considered a national treasure and a major attraction for foreign tourists. The tusker resided in the Kalawewa National Park and Kahalla Pallekele Sanctuary, drawing visitors eager to witness its majestic presence.
