The Ministry of Health says that it is planned to produce 30% of the Sri Lanka's pharmaceutical needs.
The ministry stated that it will be done by the end of this year.
Its Additional Secretary Dr. Saman Ratnayake stated that currently only 17% of the country's pharmaceutical needs are produced locally.
He mentioned that steps have been taken to build new factories for this purpose in many pharmaceutical villages and regions.
The Additional Secretary further said that in the next two years, 70% of the country's drug needs are planned to be procured in the country.
