Supreme Court Justice Murdu Fe ando is set to take her oath as the new Chief Justice of the country today (December 2).

The swearing-in ceremony will take place before President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Fe ando’s nomination follows the retirement of Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya. With this appointment, she becomes the second woman in the nation’s history to hold the position of Chief Justice.

Justice Fe ando began her legal career at the Atto ey General's Department in 1985. She was promoted to Deputy Solicitor General in 1997 and later served as Additional Solicitor General in 2014. Her judicial jou ey reached new heights when she was appointed a Supreme Court Judge in March 2018. She has also served as Acting Chief Justice since October 10, 2024.
