The Supreme Court has decided to dismiss without hearing two fundamental human rights petitions filed by former Minister Wimal Weerawansa and two parties seeking a ruling to invalidate the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the Sri Lankan government with India to implement the project to issue digital identity cards for the country's citizens.
This was when these petitions were called before a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena today (17).
The three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, which accepted the preliminary objections raised by the Atto ey General that the relevant petitions could not be continued, has subsequently decided to dismiss these petitions without hearing them.
