It has been revealed by the COPA Committee that 53 wild elephants have died after being hit by trains between 2020 and 2024.
This was when the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) met in Parliament recently under the chairmanship of Member of Parliament Aravinda Senarath.
Officials have pointed out that the situation in 2018 has now changed and that recently it has been identified that about 200 elephants are roaming around the railway tracks daily.
