The Asian Development Bank (ADB) today (19) signed an agreement for a $150 million loan approved for the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) projects.
Initial discussions to obtain this loan from the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) through the Sri Lankan gove ment were held in October. Accordingly, the loan was approved in November.
The CEB plans to use this loan to implement a number of essential projects to improve the stability of the country’s electricity system.
It is also expected to construct a number of essential transmission line projects to connect the large-scale renewable energy projects to be built in the country in the future.
Accordingly, the loan will be used to construct 6 new grid substations, 87 km. long 132 km. long transmission lines, 45 km. long 132 220 transmission lines and the capacity of two existing grid substations are to be increased.
The Ceylon Electricity Board and its subsidiary, Lanka Electricity (Private) Limited, distribute electricity to 7.5 million customers.
The Ceylon Electricity Board’s transmission network, which connects the distribution system and power plants, consists of 3,400 km of transmission lines and 90 grid substations.
