The Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation says that a new project has been prepared with the aim of reducing accidents in long-distance buses.
Accordingly, it is reported that it has been implemented as a pilot project with the intervention of the private sector.
Under this, it has been decided to install 40 AI camera systems in SLTB and private buses.
Through this, the driver's behavior will be monitored, and necessary steps will be taken to inform the driver. It is reported that the new camera system is capable of monitoring the driver's fatigue, sleepiness, closing eyes, etc.
In addition, the ministry further stated that this system will also monitor compliance with traffic rules and wearing seat belts and issue signals to drivers.
It is reported that the first phase of this pilot project was inaugurated yesterday (12) at the Kataragama Depot under the patronage of the Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation, Bimal Ratnayake.
