The Cabinet has received approval to take the necessary steps to build electric railway lines.
It is reported that the Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development has submitted the relevant cabinet paper.
Electric railway lines are scheduled to be built on railway lines with heavy passenger traffic.
Accordingly, necessary steps are scheduled to be taken to build electric railway lines on the main line, including the development of Gampaha, Veyangoda, Mirigama and Polgahawela railway stations, the Maradana to Ragama railway line, the Maradana to Makumbura railway line on the Kelani Valley line and the Maradana to Panadura railway line on the coastal line.
