The Department of Meteorology has issued a heavy rain warning.

This is in effect for the Weste , Sabaragamuwa, and Northe provinces and the Galle, Matara, Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, and Puttalam districts.

The statement further states that the southwest monsoon is gradually establishing itself across the island.

The Department of Meteorology stated that as a result, an increase in rain conditions is expected in the southwest areas of the island today (19) and in the next few days.
