The 40 Indian workers are assisted by a Thai team

Authorities in India have linked up with a Thai cave rescue team as the need to reach people trapped in a tunnel grows, foreign media say.

Rescue operations are gaining urgency amid reports that a tunnel collapsed during construction work in northe Uttarakhand last Sunday, trapping 40 people and leaving some sick.

Four days after the incident, as anger grew among their relatives outside the tunnel entrance, the authorities deployed a special machine to rescue them, according to foreign media.

Authorities said they were exploring all alte ative ways to reach the people, including involving teams experienced in delicate rescue operations.
