The Cabinet has approved raising the mandatory retirement age for gove ment doctors to 63 years.
This decision comes as an amendment to the Pensions Act.
Doctors who were set to retire by December 31 this year will now have the opportunity to continue serving until the age of 63.
The new policy applies to specialist doctors, all grade medical officers, specialist dental hygienists, general dental hygienists, administrative grade medical officers, and all gove ment-registered medical officers.
Previously, the retirement age for gove ment doctors was 65 years but was reduced to 60 years in 2022 by the then gove ment. The latest move aims to address the healthcare sector's staffing needs.
