The National Dengue Control Unit has taken steps to declare a dengue control week across the island from the 15th with the aim of controlling the spread of dengue disease.
Community Medicine Specialist Dr. Prashila Samaraweera of the National Dengue Control Unit stated that it was decided to implement this program due to the increase in dengue patients reported from several areas of the island in the past few weeks.
Special mosquito control programs were implemented across the island on the 8th, 9th, and 10th with the aim of destroying dengue mosquito breeding sites and raising public awareness.
The National Dengue Control Unit stated that it has planned to implement a mosquito control week at the local gove ment level to further control the spread of dengue.
The unit further stated that the public's cooperation is essential in keeping the environment clean by removing mosquito breeding grounds near homes, schools, and gove ment and private institutions.
