The Colombo Magistrate's Court has granted bail to Indian national Prem Thakkar, owner of the Goal Marvels cricket team, who was accused of proposing match-fixing to a West Indies player during the Sri Lanka T-10 tou ament in Pallekele, Kandy.
The case was heard today (20) by Colombo Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage. Lawyers representing Thakkar requested bail for their client, while Senior State Counsel Udara Karunathilaka argued for measures to ensure the suspect remains in Sri Lanka during the investigation.
The court granted Thakkar bail on a cash payment of Rs. 500,000 and two sureties of Rs. 5 million each. Additionally, he was prohibited from traveling abroad and ordered to report to the Sports Corruption Investigation Police Unit every Wednesday.
The case is scheduled to be taken up again on January 27.
