A petition challenging the formulation of a new constitution for the Sri Lanka Rugby Federation was settled yesterday (5) in the Court of Appeal.
The petition, filed by Roshan Dean, Secretary of the Weste Province Rugby Union, was heard before the Court of Appeal bench comprising Justices Mohamed Lafar Tahir and P. Kumaran Ratnam.
During the hearing, Additional Solicitor General Sumathi Dharmawardena, representing the respondents, informed the court that the Secretary to the Ministry of Sports had decided to hold an election to appoint officers for the Rugby Federation. A three-member committee, including representatives from the Rugby Union and the Olympic Committee, will oversee the process, approve the voter list, and facilitate the election.
It was further stated that the newly elected officers would be empowered to amend the Federation's constitution. Following an agreement by both parties to these terms, the court ordered the petition to be settled.
